January, the month of resolutions

It's January, which for most of us means an imaginary new beginning. The old year is over, the new year brings hope that it will be better and that we will finally do it all our own way. We each have some favorites for change. One wants to lose 5 kilos again, another would like to learn something new, another would like to dust off her sewing machine and another would like to read more books. But we often don't manage to do it, we make excuses that we don't have time or it's too expensive for us. So, ladies, how about resolutions? Which ones make sense and don't ruin our daily schedule and monthly budget?

Expand your horizons

The least popular decision concerns education. Sometimes we sort of suspect that our horizons are a little narrower than they should be, and as a result we easily succumb to various misinformation and myths. But it is human nature to want to know more, even if compulsory schooling has often successfully killed it in us. So especially those of us who were born earlier can often very easily resign ourselves to some personal development and education. And that is a great pity, because with the development of modern technology, the door has opened to us not only to the vast majority of information, but also to new possibilities without having to take our heels out of the apartment. And that's quite handy now that it's snowing. If you're reading this article, you have access to the internet. So why not make the most of it?

A modern source of information is the so-called Podcasts. It is a relatively new medium, although it is already quite common abroad. It is a post similar to a radio show, but you don't listen to it regularly from the radio, but as the author releases a new episode on the internet. For example, Peter Ludwig's podcast is interesting, as he invites interesting guests and talks about personal development or even just current topics. You can find it under the title Deep Talks. The podcast will open if you click here.

If you are uncomfortable with this type of conversation, you can listen to Czech Radio (link directly here). He categorizes his podcasts by topic, so you won't miss anything interesting. And you can cook or crochet while you listen.

For the more action-oriented types of ladies, we discovered an interesting offer from the Prague 7 Municipal District. It organizes a variety of educational courses for a manageable fee, more information can be found on the website Municipal district of Prague 7. Other districts also offer educational and cultural activities for their residents. An excellent source of information is the town hall newspaper, where you can find out all the latest information and news. Another option is the regional newspaper, where you can get information from the whole area. We like to read Our region.

A fairly popular resolution is to read good books. Where to take the time and not steal and how do I actually know a good book? First of all, we have time to do what we want to do. Go to bed an hour early and save 60 minutes to enthusiastically flip through the pages of a book. You can find reviews of the good ones at https://www.cbdb.cz/clanky-recenzeand so you don't go broke, sign up for the library. The looming penalties can make your resolutions much easier. And if you're still keen on book news, keep an eye on the websites of the big book palaces, which highlight the best titles with iron-clad regularity. Try checking out Books Dobrovsky, LUXOR, or Kanzelsberger. And I'm sure you know Cheap bookswhere you can get real pearls for a fraction of the original price.

Think about yourself and your health

Well, it's said to think of yourself and your health. It's a very nice resolution. But is it possible to change your habits? Yes, it is possible. Set smaller goals, as Peter Ludwig says in his book The End of Procrastination, you can eat the elephant, but in bite-sized chunks. If changing a habit is as big as an elephant for you, cut it into smaller pieces. Need to get in shape? Combine the pleasant with the useful and start with walks. In Prague, it's easier thanks to the excellent public transport network, so you don't just have to walk around your house. You can use the portal to help you walk Prague unknownwhich organizes guided walks and also presents interesting tips on where to go on your own. And maybe you'll learn something new 🙂 If you prefer to exercise under expert guidance, try making an appointment at Kinisi Physiotherapy Centre. It is a long way, but the friendly receptionist and experienced physiotherapists will make up for everything and you will go home happy.

The big bogeyman is the ever-increasing blood pressure after forty. Hand on heart, who wants to take medication? No one, we're basically young girls under sixty and full of spunk, so let's leave the pills to the inactive and deal with the pressure naturally. Did you know that just swapping coffee for a decaffeinated option can have a good effect on our blood pressure? So what is decaffeinated coffee? Piccolo doesn't exist. Where can you go with your girlfriends? How about a stylish café My cup of coffee in Karlín or confectionery and café Alchymista at Letna? You can also do more blood pressure magic in the kitchen. Tips and tricks can be found at pressure gauges.czincluding fabulous recipes. And if you want to be really sure, in a comfortable environment internal outpatient clinic on Senovážné Square you can consult a doctor for any problems. Appointments there are surprisingly short and after your visit you can literally walk from the Jindřiška Tower to the Old Town Square, where you can enjoy the reconstructed astronomical clock. And if you continue to the other side of Charles Bridge, you can immerse yourself in a world of magic and revolution in movie tricks in Karel Zeman Museum.

Another stumbling block in the duties is usually a visit to the dentist. Probably nobody likes to go there, and hand on heart, as we get older, visits can get more expensive. However, preventive checkups ensure a reduction in the amount spent on dental repairs and adjustments and are fully covered by health insurance. We are entitled to them twice a year, so why not take advantage of it? Near the Písecká Gate and the Charlotte Masaryk Park, in an inconspicuous villa, there is a new Dental Clinic Hradčanská. Our team of professional dentists will take care of you in all your problems, and they will not ruin you. The advantage is our own dental laboratory and dental hygienist. And if you plan your visit for the spring, take the opportunity to visit the exhibition Pre-spring at Prague Castle. This year it takes place from Friday 1 to Sunday 10 March 2019 and its theme is the past and present of the Royal Gardens. As well as a range of reproductions of historic plans, you will be introduced to period planting methods and the cultivation of outdoor and portable plants. The exhibition is held annually in the Empire Greenhouse of Prague Castle, and admission is by token.

The mammogram is also often forgotten, yet it is the most effective method of breast cancer prevention yet invented. If you haven't been in over two years, use your January resolution to make another visit. We have two centres in Breast Unit Prague, you can choose whether you prefer Háje or Hradčanska. Mammacentrum Hradčanská has one big advantage! On the ground floor below the examination rooms there is an excellent Cafe Placewhere they will make you a perfect coffee and if you come in the morning, you will be rewarded for a moment of discomfort at the mammogram with a great breakfast.

Spending time with family

As we look forward to grandchildren or as our teenage offspring begin to grow distant, we realize how valuable and important it is to spend time with family. It doesn't just mean getting together for Sunday lunch or Friday nights in front of the TV. Time spent together can be real fun, it's a great shame that we don't make this resolution often. Reach out to the younger generation of your family and try to pass on some of your skills in the process. If you're smart about it, it will all come back to you a hundredfold. So maybe start by dusting off your sewing machine or your hook and knitting needles. Handmade crafts are coming to the fore again with our offspring, it's just called modern Homemade or Do It Yourself. In days not so long ago it meant Do It Yourself, but while we often had nothing else left, today it's a matter of social prestige to be able to do something with your hands. Our children use Pinterest. There is practically no thing you won't find on this page. It's better to enter instructions in English, as it's a worldwide network of creators, but you can find some really interesting stuff. Just ask your grandson or daughter and see how willing they are to teach you how to work with this site full of ideas. When your 15 year old granddaughter sews her own skirt, she will definitely start to appreciate her clothes more.

Younger children are more interested in creating cakes and sweets; they can also train you properly on where and how to find decorating ideas. With your knowledge of Pinterest, you'll build a real cult of the modern mom-aunt-grandmother. And if you let Madeline frost your cake with buttercream, even at the cost of a sticky kitchen, you'll create memories to last a lifetime. And that's what it's all about.
