I Have Concerns About My Health

Home / Patients / I Have Concerns About My Health

The sudden pain made you touch and examine your breast. You were showering, enjoying your favorite scented soap, and suddenly you felt the lump. You also regularly self-examine, or you're having your first self-exam - since it's recommended - and suddenly you find something you don't know how to deal with.

It is important to note that breast diseases are not only manifested by lumps. There are other symptoms that indicate the possible malignant disease of the mammary gland.

Ladies, stay calm. Tumor is not like bleeding from the artery, it's not such an acute matterto stay awake panicking, or even to seek medical help late at night. Remain calm.

Symptoms

  • Skin retraction

It is one of the most visible symptoms. It becomes especially noticeable when a woman examines herself in front of a mirror and slowly raises her arms above her head. Asymmetrical skin retraction (indentation) is a sign with a high degree of suspicion.

  • Redness of the skin

Redness of the skin may also be a sign of cancer. If there is no red area of skin associated with the pain that is known by every woman who had a breast inflammation during breastfeeding, one might suspect that it is inflammatory cancer of the mammary gland. Very often it is accompanied by enlargement of the nodes in the armpit.

  • Lump

Most of the lumps in the mammary gland are benign. Some women even have a gland structure so "lumpy" that it is they consider it to be the norm for them. It depends on whether the newly discovered lump belongs to the glandular structure, the subcutaneous tissue, or even the skin.

  • Changes of the nipple

Yellow may appear on the nipple of the affected breast along with scaling and crusting. It often bleeds when you try to remove it. The nipple often sticks to the bra and tears off the scaling when you take the bra off, and fresh blood appears.

  • Nipple discharge

The manifestation of a malignant tumor of the mammary gland is nipple bleeding. Drops of fresh, bright red blood that appear after squeezing the nipple, but more often flow out spontaneously and leave imprints on the underwear, are a clear warning sign. More often, however, nipple discharge of a milky or yellow colour is a hormonal cause and is by no means a signal to panic.

  • Pain

Soreness is a possible symptom of cancer which is deliberately mentioned at the end. Pain perception is very individual. Particularly in the context of breast disease; there is a wide variability in the description of issues by different women. Soreness is a valuable symptom of possible malignancy, but it is not as dominant as other symptoms.

What to do

In the mix of confusion and worry, almost no woman is able to think pragmatically. As long as she stays at home with her fears, everything appears unsolvable. Ancient wisdom suggests that when a situation seems to have no solution, there are at least three. In this moment of fear, there is only one thing to do: to confront your problem and begin addressing it.

You can find the nearest accredited mammography centre on the website www.mamo.cz. When booking an appointment, it is necessary to emphasize that you are not just going in for routine regular check-up. It is good to describe the symptomswhich inspired you to book an appointment. After scheduling, you can visit your gynecologist or GP and request a referral.

We should emphasise that no doctor is obliged to write a referral when there are no visible symptoms . Nevertheless, you can make an appointment and have an examination if you are willing to cover the expenses..

To young women we recommendto have a breast examination whenever they have any doubts about the conditions of their mammary glands. This is even if their gynecologist or general practitioner considers the examination to be unnecessary. It is a common mistake to underestimate the palpable lumps and other symptoms in young women. A healthcare professional may sometimes be reluctant to acknowledge that a patient of their daughter's age could already have breast cancer. It is not good to be comforted by unsupported claimsthat it is nothing to be concerned about. If I feel a lump in my breast, I want to know if it is a benign lump or cancer. Each of us, driven by the instinct of self-preservation, must do everything in our power to regain our health as quickly as possible.
